Ride-hailing services such as Uber were legalized statewide earlier this year after years of debate between state legislators.

The Syracuse University Student Association will be partnering with popular ride-hailing service Uber over Labor Day weekend to offer students $10,000 in free Uber rides.

In an email to the campus community Wednesday evening, SA President James Franco and SA Vice President Angie Pati said the first 1,000 students to use a code — which will be released by SA on Friday at 5 p.m. via email — will get $10 off any ride with Uber between 5 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Monday.

“Most importantly, we urge students to utilize this code to get home safely,” Franco said. The SA president previously said he wanted to partner this year with ride-hailing organizations.
